What Enters Your Mind Comes Out

As I grow older and experience life more in different ways, I have come to realize that everything that happens to ourselves in our lives is a direct result of the things we think.  When I look back at my life and at the things which have happened to me and I analyze them I notice a common theme, the things that I was thinking usually came to pass, in some form or another.  We have these experiences in life, where we just KNOW something is going to happen and it usually does.  My main goal right now is to try and harness these ideas and consciously apply them to my life in a positive way.  The most difficult question in my life has always been "If what happens in life is a result of what we think, then how do I control my thoughts?"

Thoughts run in and out of our heads at a rapid pace. Sometimes we hold on to our thoughts and dwell on them and sometimes we let them go.  There are times when a thought pops into our head that is negative, or irrational.  It is what we do with out thoughts that is the key here.  You see, our mind is basically a computer, it does EXACTLY what it has been programmed to do.  The programming of our mind begins at a birth, where for the first two years of our lives, all we do is absorb our surroundings, that is how we begin to develop our identity and our lives begin to unfold.  Lucky I have been to have had a very positive family life during those years, but some aren't that lucky.

As we develop as a youth our mind develops and we being to make choices, unfortunately a lot of our choices are a result of our experiences in our youth and sometimes, our experiences our beyond our control we are growing and we are in the hands of those who tend to us, whether good or bad.  As we grow and we develop, through these experiences we begin the hard wiring of our brain. During our adolescence we learn to love, to hate, to give, to take to be responsible or not, this is a time where we discover pain and when we teach our brain how to react to it for our entire life.  The years go on, we age into adulthood and our thought patterns develop, creating the world which we produce for ourselves, sometimes its a good one and sometimes it's bad.

At this point in my life NOW I am trying to focus on making reprogramming my mind.  I am trying to dominate my thoughts with good things, even though in certain situations it is bad things that flood my thoughts.   Certain hardships with love and certain situations where I compromised my morals during my teenage years have programmed my mind to think thoughts that no longer apply to my life as it is NOW.   There was a time where survival was necessary for me, a time where I needed to expect the worst, to not trust in order to protect myself, those times are far in my past and while I do not live the way I once did, sometimes negative thoughts enter my mind and right now I am finally ridding myself of these ghosts from my past.

For a long time I wondered how exactly one rids themselves of negative thoughts and replaces them with positive ones?  Why are some people victims of their experiences, always screwing up and being negative, while others thrive and come from the worst possible scenarios to shine bright and be so positive?  I think that many people have many different ways to program their minds.  Some people pray or meditate.  For me, I have been meditating a lot lately and it seems to be doing wonders in my life.  Essentially, I acknowledge a negative thought as it enters my mind and label it so, then I release the thought and let it go.  Throughout the day as I preform my daily activities, I focus on the thoughts which a want to think, who the person I want to be IS and visualize the world that I wish to create for myself.  As I think this thoughts and release the negative ones, I thank God for all that IS.

This seems to be working for me.

If your life isn't a blank canvas, use an eraser!
