I am quite aware that this entry is going to offend some people, I am aware of this, however, the need outweighs the risk.
I was watching the news today, and there was a segment where I heard people stating that our beloved country is the GREATEST country in the world.
We are constantly shouting to the whole World that we are GREATEST nation.
I also watched the television and watched the Boston Red Sox, my beloved team, being declared the "World Champions"
The Boston Red Sox are not "World Champions", last time I checked they did not play any Cuban teams, but they are Champions just not World Champions.
We are way to cocky.
It is a fact, that we are a very wealthy and powerful nation.
I understand people feel the need to be patriotic. I would gladly lose my life protecting our core ideals, but why do we feel the need to shout out to the World that we are the GREATEST?
We wonder why people hate us.
It is my belief that if one is TRULY GREAT, than there is not need for one to vocalize it to everyone around them. When I succeeded in my studies, I went into class with confidence, knowing that I had taken in the knowledge, and confident that I was going to do the best that I can and I achieved GREATNESS. I never felt the need to stand up at the completion of my exam and shout "I am the greatest test taker in this class", I knew and I believed in myself, that was good enough for me, and I had the respect of my peers.
I think that a lot of people in this country do not truly believe in their country, that is why so many people do not take part in the political process.
There is no need for us to be the GREATEST Country in the World, I don't mind if other people are GREAT with us
Last time I checked my History books, people who stated that they were the GREATEST faced destruction.
We are a highly skilled, very wealthy nation that very well may be the MOST FREE NATION.
We might be the Nation that offers its people the most opportunity.
To be truly great, we need to be aware of it internally, someone who is Truly Great should not have the desire to shout it at everyone else. Being truly great means to be humble. A HUMBLE nation is a GREAT nation. We are only truly Great if the rest of the World sees us as Great. Our society breeds some of the BEST in the World, I will not argue that, however, our time may come if we do not humble ourselves. We set a standard, and our culture creates the need to be better than the previous Generation, that's how we can be the best.
We are TRULY a GREAT Nation.
We may not be THE GREATEST, other people feel like they have a GREAT home as well.
We should not feel the need to reassure each other, or tell the rest of the world that we are the best.
We should be bold, and confident, and promote peace and civility. That is being truly GREAT.
Remember what History has taught us. Before the Titanic set sail, its creator declared that it was THE GREATEST ship ever built. Everyone at the time KNEW it was the GREATEST ship ever built, you could see it. Pride cometh before a fall.... the TITANIC SUNK.
And what every did happen to that guy with GREAT in his name, umm....Alexander.....
And there is always GREAT BRITAIN....
I believe the British Empire was a lot bigger some time ago.
THERE IS NO NEED TO PROCLAIM GREATNESS...true GREATNESS is silent and confident.
